  • The Galaxy Z Fold 8 looks flatter and has a less noticeable crease in the latest comparison.
  • Samsung’s anti reflective display treatment can make the crease less distracting in bright conditions.
  • OPPO focuses on both the appearance and physical feel of the crease with its redesigned hinge and display system.
  • Samsung wins for visual flatness, while OPPO may feel smoother when using your finger across the folded area.

Foldable phones have made impressive progress, but one familiar compromise remains impossible to ignore: the crease.

No matter how advanced the hinge or flexible panel becomes, the point where the display folds can still be visible and noticeable to the touch. Samsung and OPPO have taken different approaches to solving that problem, and a recent comparison between the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and OPPO Find N6 puts those differences into perspective.

According to a comparison shared by Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 appears to have a flatter looking inner display, with the crease less obvious than on the OPPO Find N6. That gives Samsung an advantage if visual appearance is your main concern.

OPPO, however, is not far behind. The Find N6 has been designed around a more aggressive approach to crease reduction, with the company focusing not only on how the fold looks but also on how it feels when you run a finger across the screen.

Samsung puts visual flatness first

Samsung has made some significant changes to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 display. The phone uses the company’s Flex Titanium display technology, which incorporates titanium based materials into the display structure to improve durability and crease control.

The result, at least in the comparison shared by Ice Universe, is a screen that looks flatter when unfolded. The central fold is still there, as it has to be with current foldable display technology, but it appears less distracting.

Samsung also has another advantage that is easy to overlook. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 uses an anti reflective treatment on its main display. Reflections can make a crease stand out considerably more, particularly under strong indoor lighting or outdoors. By reducing those reflections, Samsung can make the fold less obvious even when the physical crease itself has not disappeared.

The Fold 8 also has a 7.6 inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 5.5 inch outer display. Samsung has positioned the phone as the lightest Galaxy Z Fold model yet, at 201 grams.

Those improvements matter because a foldable display is not judged only by its specifications. The way it looks when you open the phone is a major part of the experience.

OPPO takes a different approach

OPPO has made crease reduction one of the key talking points around the Find N6.

The company describes its approach as a Zero Feel Crease design, to reduce both the visible line and the sensation of the fold under your finger. The Find N6 has an 8.12 inch inner screen and a 6.62 inch cover display.

Its redesigned hinge and Auto Smoothing Flex Glass are intended to limit the formation of a prominent crease over time. OPPO says the updated system can reduce long term crease formation by up to 82 percent compared with the previous generation.

That is an important distinction.

Samsung appears to be concentrating heavily on how flat and clean the display looks, while OPPO is also paying close attention to the physical sensation of using the screen. For someone who regularly writes, scrolls or plays games across the centre of the display, that tactile difference could matter more than a crease that is slightly harder to see.

Independent testing has also suggested that the Find N6 can feel slightly smoother around the crease. Tom’s Guide reportedly found the OPPO foldable more pleasant to touch in this area, although the difference was not dramatic.

Interestingly, both displays can become difficult to distinguish when they are switched on. That highlights an important point about foldable creases. Lighting conditions, viewing angles and screen content can all change how noticeable the fold becomes.

So, which phone has the better crease?

If the question is purely about visual appearance, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 appears to have the advantage.

The comparison from Ice Universe shows Samsung’s inner panel looking flatter, with a less prominent central crease. The anti reflective display treatment also helps reduce the glare that can draw attention to the fold.

OPPO still deserves credit for approaching the problem from another direction. The Find N6 is designed to make the crease less noticeable both visually and physically. If you care more about how the display feels when your finger passes over the centre, OPPO may have the more convincing solution.

That makes this less of a clear victory for one manufacturer and more of a comparison between two different priorities.

Samsung is effectively saying that the crease should become harder to see. OPPO is trying to make it harder to see and harder to feel.

For everyday use, both approaches are meaningful. A crease that disappears completely is still difficult to achieve with today’s flexible display technology, but manufacturers are clearly getting closer to making it a minor part of the experience rather than the defining feature of a foldable phone.

For now, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 gets the nod for visual crease control, while the OPPO Find N6 remains a strong contender for tactile smoothness.
