Fortnite players finally have an official date for one of the most anticipated horror crossovers of the year. Epic Games has confirmed that Five Nights at Freddy’s is coming to Fortnite as part of Fortnitemares 2026, with the collaboration set to launch on October 1.

The partnership follows months of rumours, leaks and speculation surrounding a possible FNAF appearance in Fortnite. Epic has now put those rumours to rest with a trailer that gives players their first proper look at the crossover.

The timing also makes sense. Fortnitemares is Fortnite’s annual Halloween event, and the addition of Five Nights at Freddy’s gives this year’s celebration a distinctly darker theme. The collaboration is expected to arrive alongside the wider Fortnitemares update for Chapter 7 Season 4.

While Epic has not revealed every detail yet, the trailer confirms that the crossover will go beyond a handful of Item Shop outfits. Players can expect new skins, cosmetics and what appears to be a dedicated gameplay experience based around the world of FNAF.

Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy are coming to Fortnite

The biggest part of the collaboration is the arrival of four familiar faces from the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise.

Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy will all be available as playable Fortnite characters. These are arguably the four characters most closely associated with the original FNAF experience, making their inclusion a natural choice for the collaboration.

Each animatronic will also have a Withered style. That means players will have an alternate appearance for the characters that reflects their damaged and worn down versions from the games.

The trailer also suggests that these skins will have reactive elements. During the footage, Freddy and Bonnie appear to lose parts of their faces after being hit with a Pickaxe. The effect is designed to recreate the battered appearance associated with the animatronics in the FNAF series.

It is a small detail, but it could make these skins stand out from standard Fortnite outfits. Instead of simply changing the character model, the collaboration appears to use the behaviour of the animatronics as part of the cosmetic design.

Epic has yet to reveal the individual prices for the four skins or confirm whether they will be sold separately or as part of larger bundles.

A new FNAF experience could be part of Fortnitemares

The cosmetics are only one part of the crossover. The trailer also provides a glimpse at a new gameplay experience that appears to take direct inspiration from Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria can be seen recreated inside Fortnite, with players seemingly having to survive against the franchise’s animatronic characters. The footage points towards a boss based experience, although Epic has not yet explained the complete rules or objectives.

One particularly interesting feature shown in the trailer is the ability for players to apparently transform into an animatronic after defeating one of the bosses. If that feature makes it into the final version, it could give the collaboration a gameplay element that goes beyond the usual Fortnite crossover formula.

The pizzeria could also become a temporary named location on the Fortnite island. Epic has previously introduced themed areas during major collaborations, allowing players to explore locations taken directly from another franchise.

For now, however, the exact role of the pizzeria remains unconfirmed. More details are likely to emerge when the Fortnitemares update goes live.

More FNAF cosmetics could be on the way

The crossover is not limited to character skins. Epic’s trailer also reveals several additional items inspired by the franchise.

Mr. Cupcake is confirmed as a Back Bling, giving players a chance to carry the recognisable FNAF character with them during matches. The collaboration will also introduce Fazbear Kicks, adding another way for players to bring the franchise into their Fortnite locker.

The trailer also uses The Living Tombstone’s famous FNAF 1 theme towards the end. That has led to expectations that the song could arrive in Fortnite as a Jam Track, although the full Item Shop and Festival lineup has not yet been announced.

There could also be more cosmetics waiting to be revealed. Emotes based around the series’ jumpscare moments would fit naturally into the collaboration, while themed Harvesting Tools could expand the collection further.

Epic has not announced the final pricing structure, individual item prices or the contents of every bundle. Those details are expected closer to launch or when the relevant items appear in the Item Shop.

For Fortnite and Five Nights at Freddy’s fans, October 1 is therefore the date to watch. The collaboration combines some of FNAF’s most recognisable characters with the Halloween focused Fortnitemares event, while the teased pizzeria experience could make this more than a cosmetic crossover.

With Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy confirmed, the remaining question is how much of the collaboration Epic is still keeping secret. More information should become available once the Fortnitemares update arrives and the complete Item Shop lineup is revealed.
