Apple HomeView is a new smart home device designed to bring entertainment, communication and connected home features together in a single place. Featuring a 7 inch Liquid Retina display, an integrated speaker system and a new version of Siri powered by Apple Intelligence, the device aims to make everyday tasks around the home easier.

The device is designed to work as a shared screen for the household while offering personalised experiences for individual users. It can play music, handle FaceTime calls, display reminders, provide access to messages and help control compatible smart home accessories. Apple is also placing a strong emphasis on privacy, with features designed to keep personal information separate between household members.

HomeView can sit on a kitchen counter, bedside table or living room surface. A separate wall mounted version is also available for spaces such as hallways and entryways. According to Apple’s announcement, pre orders begin today, with availability scheduled to start on November 13.

Apple HomeView combines a compact display with a flexible design

The HomeView features an aluminium design, a 7 inch Liquid Retina display and a domed speaker base connected by a stainless steel hinge. The hinge allows users to adjust the display angle for a more comfortable viewing position, whether the device is placed on a high kitchen counter or a bedside table.

Apple is offering the tabletop model in four colours: silver, starlight, rose pink and space grey. Each version comes with a matching cable, allowing the device to fit more naturally into different home interiors.

The display is designed to remain visible under different lighting conditions. True Tone adjusts the screen to suit the surrounding light, while automatic brightness can reach up to 500 nits during the day and drop to 0.3 nits at night. This should make the HomeView suitable for both brightly lit rooms and darker bedroom environments.

The interface also adapts to how close someone is standing to the screen. Information can be presented in a simpler format when viewed from across the room, with additional detail appearing as the user approaches.

For those who prefer a permanent installation, Apple is introducing a wall mounted model in silver and space grey. It can be installed using compatible mounts from Schneider Home, with options for self installation or professional assistance.

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI take centre stage

One of HomeView’s main features is Siri AI, a redesigned version of Apple’s voice assistant powered by Apple Intelligence and advanced Apple silicon. Apple says the updated assistant offers more natural conversations, improved understanding of personal context and the ability to provide information on a wider range of subjects.

Users can ask questions, discover music and interact with information displayed on the screen. The assistant is designed to make everyday requests feel more conversational rather than requiring people to remember specific voice commands.

When paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, Siri AI can offer more personalised assistance. It can draw on relevant information from apps such as Messages and Calendar, helping users find information and manage their daily schedules.

The experience also extends beyond HomeView itself. Conversations can continue through the Siri app on compatible Apple devices, allowing users to pick up where they left off on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch or Apple Vision Pro. Conversation history can be synchronised privately through iCloud.

Users without an Apple Intelligence enabled iPhone or iPad can still access several of Siri AI’s capabilities, including its broader knowledge, more natural interactions and improved music discovery. However, access to personal context features depends on a compatible paired device.

Personalised profiles and entertainment for the whole household

Apple HomeView is designed to accommodate up to six recognised users. Each person can have a personalised Home Screen with their own apps and widgets, while personal content in supported apps remains separate from other household members.

The device can also support shared experiences. Families can display photographs from shared albums, listen to music together and use the screen to keep track of useful information throughout the day.

Personalisation extends to the display itself. HomeView offers a selection of faces that combine visual customisation with information at a glance. The Photos face can give images a portrait style depth effect, while shared albums turn the screen into a digital photo frame that family members can help update.

Another option, called Flow, responds to physical presence and movement to create an interactive visual experience. Apple is also bringing Snoopy animations to the device, with scenes that change to reflect occasions such as holidays and sporting events.

Audio is another important part of the HomeView experience. The tabletop model features two full range drivers in the display, a down firing woofer and two force cancelling passive radiators in the base. Apple says its computational audio system adjusts sound output and bass response in real time to help maintain consistent audio quality at different volume levels.

HomeView supports Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Apple TV and compatible third party audio and video apps. Apple Music users can view animated album artwork and lyrics, while Handoff lets them transfer playback from an iPhone by bringing it close to the display.

Multiple HomeView devices can also work alongside HomePod, HomePod mini and compatible AirPlay speakers to provide music throughout the home.

FaceTime, messaging and smart home management

HomeView is designed to make communication easier without requiring users to reach for their phones. FaceTime support includes Center Stage, which helps keep participants framed during calls as they move around the room.

Messages can be read and answered using voice controls or the onscreen keyboard. Apple’s Intercom feature also lets household members send announcements to a particular room or across the home, reaching compatible HomeView and HomePod speakers as well as supported personal devices.

In the kitchen, the device can help users follow recipes, convert online instructions into step by step guidance, manage timers and keep track of ingredients. These features could make it useful while cooking, when hands are often occupied.

Smart home controls are another key part of the product. HomeView is intended to provide a central point for managing compatible accessories and using voice commands to handle routine tasks. Hands free automations could make common activities more convenient, particularly when the device is positioned in a frequently used area of the home.

Privacy remains a central part of Apple’s pitch. Facial recognition is used to personalise the experience for household members, while personal information is intended to remain private between users. Apple describes HomeView as a shared household device that still provides an individual experience for everyone who uses it.

Overall, Apple HomeView brings together several functions that would otherwise require separate devices or apps. Its combination of Siri AI, a compact touchscreen, room filling audio, video calling and smart home controls positions it as a central interface for the connected home. Its appeal will ultimately depend on how well these features work in everyday use, the compatibility of existing smart home accessories and the value it offers compared with other smart displays.
