  • Two versions available for Xbox and PlayStation ecosystems
  • Offers 60 plus hours battery and customizable design
  • Faces strong mid range competition from established brands

Gaming audio specialist RIG has introduced a new wireless headset aimed squarely at competitive players. The R8 Spectre Pro arrives with bold claims of “studio-grade” sound and a tuning profile designed specifically for first-person shooters, where directional audio can make or break a match.

Unveiled by parent company Nacon, the headset enters a crowded mid-range market, but it’s clearly trying to stand out with a mix of long battery life, platform flexibility, and a few thoughtful extras. On paper, it’s a well-rounded package that looks ready to appeal to both console and PC gamers.

Two models, broad compatibility

The R8 Spectre Pro comes in two distinct variants. The HX model is built for Xbox players, while the HS version is officially licensed for PlayStation systems. Despite this split, both versions are far from limited to a single ecosystem.

Users can connect them to PC, mobile devices, and even the Nintendo Switch 2, making them versatile options for gamers who switch between platforms. This kind of cross-compatibility is increasingly expected, but it’s still a welcome inclusion at this price point.

The Xbox-focused HX model includes Dolby Atmos support and even bundles a lifetime subscription to the Dolby Access app. Meanwhile, the PlayStation-oriented HS version is tuned for Sony’s Tempest 3D Audio, ensuring each headset is optimized for its primary audience.

Audio features and design highlights

At the heart of the headset are 40mm graphene drivers, which are becoming more common in gaming audio due to their ability to deliver clear, responsive sound. RIG says the tuning emphasizes subtle in-game cues like footsteps and distant gunfire, key details for competitive shooters.

Battery life is another standout feature, with over 60 hours on a single charge. That’s comfortably above average and should reduce the need for frequent charging sessions. When you do need to recharge, the included RGB-lit base station adds a premium touch while doubling as a convenient dock.

The microphone setup also looks solid. A 16-bit, 48kHz cardioid boom mic is included, designed to focus on your voice while minimizing background noise. For players who rely on clear team communication, that’s an important detail.

Customization is another area where the R8 Spectre Pro leans in. Thanks to RIG’s Snap and Lock system, users can swap out ear cushions and earcup plates with ease. It’s a small feature, but one that adds a layer of personalization not always seen in this category.

Strong competition in the mid range

At $179.99, the R8 Spectre Pro sits firmly in the mid-range bracket. That’s a competitive space, with established options like the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 and Logitech Astro A20 X already offering strong performance and brand recognition.

That means RIG’s new headset will need to deliver on its audio promises to truly stand out. The feature set is undeniably solid, but in this price range, execution matters more than specifications alone.

Still, if the sound tuning genuinely enhances competitive gameplay as claimed, the R8 Spectre Pro could carve out a niche among players who prioritize precision audio over flashy extras.
