Murtagh Fraser has always been one of the more guarded figures in the Outlander universe. By the time viewers meet him in the main series, he has become fiercely loyal, emotionally reserved and often suspicious of the people around him. Blood of My Blood gives the audience a chance to see the man before years of hardship shaped him.
That is a major reason Grace Cameron has been introduced in Season 2.
In Episode 2, Brian and Murtagh arrive at Castle Leoch with an important message. Lord Lovat has gathered his forces to support the Jacobite cause. Their arrival does not exactly go smoothly, however, as Murtagh ends up getting into a fight with Dougal and his companions.
After the fight, Mrs. Fitz finds her injured nephew and immediately starts looking after him. While she goes to collect medical supplies, Murtagh is left in the care of Grace Cameron, Jocasta Cameron’s new maid.
The meeting quickly becomes more than a simple medical moment. There is an immediate connection between the two, and Jocasta notices the chemistry between them.
For executive producer Matthew B. Roberts, the introduction of Grace also offered an opportunity to explore a side of Murtagh that viewers rarely get to see.
Roberts explained that after Murtagh’s heartbreak in the previous season, the character felt like someone who needed a new place to belong. Grace provided a natural way to expand his story while also bringing him further into Jocasta’s world.
Who Is Grace Cameron?
Grace Cameron is a new character introduced during Season 2 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood. She works as Jocasta Cameron’s maid and becomes closely connected to Murtagh after their first encounter at Castle Leoch.
Her importance goes beyond simply being a romantic interest.

The prequel has already shown a younger Murtagh who is more optimistic than the character seen later in Outlander. His relationship with Grace gives the writers another way to explore that transformation.
There is also a deliberate contrast between the Murtagh viewers know and the man he once was.
In the original series, Murtagh’s rough exterior can make it easy to forget that he once had dreams, romantic feelings and reasons to believe in a better future. Season 2 is beginning to fill in those missing pieces.
Grace becomes part of that process.
Her presence allows the story to show Murtagh experiencing affection without immediately viewing it through the lens of the loss he will eventually endure. That makes their relationship potentially important not only as a romance but also as part of the emotional history of one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters.
Ruby Fubara plays Grace Cameron in the series. The casting gives the character a fresh presence within the Outlander world while placing her directly inside the Cameron family storyline.
At this stage, the series has established Grace as someone who catches Murtagh’s attention almost immediately. The producers have also made it clear that audiences will see their relationship develop over the course of the season.
That means Grace could become one of the most significant additions to Murtagh’s backstory in the prequel.
