Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2 Strategy May Reveal GTA 6’s Next Big Announcement

  • Rockstar’s GTA 6 marketing closely resembles the promotional strategy used for Red Dead Redemption 2.
  • GTA 6 Trailer 3 could arrive soon as Rockstar moves into the next phase of its campaign.
  • The first dedicated gameplay showcase is likely to appear around three months before launch.
  • GTA 6 Online and the PC version are expected to launch after the console release, following Rockstar’s usual approach.

With GTA 6 pre orders now underway, fans are asking the same question. When will Rockstar finally reveal the next trailer? While the first two trailers delivered stunning visuals, memorable characters, and a detailed look at Vice City, they stopped short of showing actual gameplay or explaining how the game’s mechanics will evolve.

That may seem unusual for one of the biggest game launches in history, but Rockstar has taken a similar path before. Looking back at how the studio promoted Red Dead Redemption 2 reveals a surprisingly familiar pattern. If history repeats itself, the next stage of GTA 6’s marketing campaign may already be taking shape.

Trailer 3 could arrive sooner than many expect

Rockstar introduced Red Dead Redemption 2 with an announcement trailer that focused almost entirely on its world and atmosphere. It created excitement without revealing much about gameplay. GTA 6 has followed the same formula.

The first GTA 6 trailer introduced Vice City, Jason, Lucia, and the game’s vibrant setting while confirming a 2025 release window. After the game was delayed into 2026, Rockstar waited well over a year before releasing the second trailer, echoing the long gap that separated the first two Red Dead Redemption 2 trailers.

The difference is what happened next. Rockstar shortened the wait between the second and third Red Dead Redemption 2 trailers, gradually increasing the pace of its marketing as launch approached. If the company follows that same strategy, GTA 6 Trailer 3 could arrive within the coming weeks rather than months.

Such timing would also make sense from a business perspective. Pre orders have generated enormous interest, but another trailer would help keep excitement high while giving fans fresh details to discuss before release.

Gameplay reveal may still be months away

Despite the anticipation, players should not expect Rockstar to reveal gameplay too early.

Red Dead Redemption 2 received its first dedicated gameplay showcase just under three months before launch, followed by a second gameplay presentation only weeks before release. Rockstar clearly prefers to keep gameplay details under wraps until the final phase of its marketing campaign.

If GTA 6 follows the same roadmap, the first proper gameplay trailer could appear around August, with another detailed gameplay showcase arriving closer to November. This approach would allow Rockstar to highlight new features, world interactions, combat improvements, driving mechanics, and technical upgrades while maintaining momentum right up to launch day.

It also gives the studio enough time to polish the experience before showing gameplay publicly, something Rockstar has traditionally prioritised.

GTA 6 Online is unlikely to launch alongside the main game

Another pattern from Rockstar’s previous releases points toward a staggered rollout for GTA 6 Online.

Both GTA Online and Red Dead Online arrived after their respective single player games, allowing Rockstar to focus on launch stability before expanding into multiplayer. Current PlayStation Store information also describes GTA 6 as a single player experience, suggesting online content will not be available on day one.

A beta or early access version of GTA 6 Online could arrive shortly after launch, potentially during December, with a wider rollout taking place sometime in 2027. Rockstar has successfully used this strategy before, giving players time to experience the story before introducing online progression and multiplayer features.

PC players may have another long wait

PC gamers are once again likely to be the most patient audience.

Red Dead Redemption 2 reached PC roughly one year after its console debut, continuing Rockstar’s long standing approach of prioritising console releases first. GTA 6 appears set to follow that same schedule.

If Rockstar sticks to its familiar release cycle, the PC version could arrive toward the end of 2027. Launching alongside a more complete version of GTA 6 Online would also provide the company with another major marketing opportunity while introducing the game to an entirely new audience.

Of course, none of these predictions are official. Rockstar has never been afraid to surprise players with unexpected announcements or changes to its release plans. Even so, the similarities between the GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 marketing campaigns are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

For now, fans may not have to wait much longer before Rockstar begins the next chapter of what is already one of the most closely watched game launches in recent memory.
