- CapCut will stop offering 1GB of free cloud storage on August 5.
- New storage plans: $2.49/month for 100GB, $7.49/month for 1000 GB.
- The collaboration limit is reduced to two people in the free tier.
ByteDance’s popular video editing app CapCut is making a significant change starting August 5.
The app, which previously offered 1GB of free cloud storage for creative assets, will discontinue this feature. This shift means users will now need to pay for cloud storage.
In recent days, users have received notifications about these upcoming changes. CapCut has been a favorite among content creators for its user-friendly interface and free cloud storage.
However, the free 1GB storage option will no longer be available. Users will now have to purchase cloud storage plans to continue saving their projects online.
CapCut will offer two paid plans for cloud storage. The first plan costs $2.49 per month and provides 100GB of storage space.
The second plan costs $7.49 per month and offers 1000GB of storage. This change means creators will either need to buy extra space or use alternative cloud services to share their files.
Moreover, the app is also revising its collaboration features. Previously, up to five collaborators could work on a single account in the free tier.
This limit is being reduced to two collaborators. From August 5, users will be able to add only one collaborator for free. For those needing more collaboration options, CapCut offers the Team Tier package.
This package allows multiple user accounts to share the same cloud space, making it easier for teams to work together.
This move is seen as part of ByteDance’s strategy to monetize CapCut further. The app has gained massive popularity, especially among social media content creators. By introducing these paid plans, ByteDance aims to generate more revenue from the app.
Earlier this year, YouTube made its CapCut rival, Create, available in 13 more markets, including Brazil, Spain, Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong. This competition might have influenced CapCut’s decision to update its features and pricing.
For creators who heavily rely on CapCut’s cloud storage and collaboration features, this change will require some adjustments. They will need to consider whether to pay for CapCut’s new plans or find alternative ways to store and share their projects.
