Mahindra has expanded its electric SUV lineup with the new BE 6 SPORTEQ, a technology focused version of its popular electric origin SUV. The new range is designed to add more personality, more connected features and greater choice, while keeping the sporty character that has become central to the BE 6.

The SPORTEQ range starts at ₹11.45 lakh with Battery as a Service, or BaaS. Under this model, customers pay separately for battery usage at ₹3.75 per kilometre, based on the stated usage calculation of 60 km per day. Traditional ex showroom pricing starts at ₹19.45 lakh for the 59 kWh version.

Mahindra is offering the SPORTEQ range in eight variants called ONE, TWO, THREE, THREE+, FOUR, FE, FE FOUR and Launch Edition. There are also 12 exterior colour choices, including four new shades called Rosso Impulso, Ruby Velvet, Graphite Storm and Firestorm Orange Satin.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin on August 26, coinciding with Onam.

The bigger story, however, is not simply the new colours or trim levels. Mahindra is using the BE 6 SPORTEQ to push its software defined vehicle strategy further, with artificial intelligence, entertainment and personalisation becoming a bigger part of the ownership experience.

Six TEQ Suites put AI at the centre

The technology package is built around Mahindra’s MAIA architecture, which forms the foundation of the company’s software defined vehicle approach.

At the centre is TEQ Talk, which is built with Google Gemini. Mahindra describes it as a conversational companion capable of supporting natural interactions inside the vehicle. The system uses 17 specialised AI agents and supports more than 100 core functions across 48 applications.

That means the technology is intended to go beyond basic voice commands. Drivers can interact with functions covering vehicle controls, navigation, music and news, making the cockpit feel more like a connected digital environment than a conventional car interface.

Mahindra has also introduced five other TEQ Suites. TEQ Play focuses on entertainment, bringing features such as karaoke, in car gaming, private audio, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, GrooveMe Party and Milestone.

TEQ Drive is aimed at driving enthusiasts, with features including Custom Drive Mode, Drift Mode, Tribe Drive and Revive and Revive SOS. The Formula E Freedom Edition also gets an exclusive Acceleration Boost feature.

TEQ Me focuses on personalisation through user profiles and automatic user detection. TEQ Secure adds features such as Secure360 Pro, intrusion alerts, NFC functionality and digital car keys. The system supports iPhone, Apple Watch, Android and Samsung smartphones, along with NFC key cards.

Finally, TEQ xting allows owners to add another layer of personalisation through features such as personalised tailgate messaging.

This combination of software and hardware is arguably the most interesting part of the new BE 6 SPORTEQ. Mahindra says the new software features will also reach existing BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S owners through OTA updates in phases beginning January 2027. The exact features available will depend on the vehicle model and variant.

Two special editions bring more attitude

The BE 6 SPORTEQ Launch Edition sits at the top of the standard range and gets a distinctive Graphite Storm exterior with a full Racing Tan leatherette interior. It is aimed at buyers who want the most visually distinctive version of the new SPORTEQ lineup.

The more interesting option for performance fans is the Formula E Freedom Edition. This version draws inspiration from Mahindra Racing and takes a different approach to the BE 6 design.

Instead of the new three screen cockpit, the Freedom Edition retains the original two screen setup and the signature halo design. The exterior gets a more purposeful treatment with subtle tricolour accents, while the interior uses a Black and Firestorm orange theme.

The Freedom Edition is also available with Satin colour finishes, including the new Rosso Impulso shade.

Mahindra is positioning this version as the performance focused member of the SPORTEQ family. With the Acceleration Boost feature, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.44 seconds, adding a little more urgency to the driving experience.

The Formula E connection is also deliberate. Mahindra Racing has enjoyed a strong Formula E campaign, including victories in Monaco and Tokyo and four pole positions for Edoardo Mortara. The company plans to showcase the Freedom Edition alongside its racing inspired livery at the London E Prix.

Pricing and what makes the SPORTEQ important

The BE 6 SPORTEQ range covers a broad price spectrum. The 59 kWh ONE variant starts at ₹11.45 lakh with BaaS, while the 70 kWh THREE variant costs ₹21.95 lakh. The 79 kWh versions range from ₹22.95 lakh for THREE to ₹26.95 lakh for FOUR, Launch Edition and FE FOUR.

The Formula E Freedom Edition starts at ₹24.45 lakh, while the FE FOUR is priced at ₹26.95 lakh.

All prices are ex showroom and exclude the cost of the wall charger and installation.

More importantly, Mahindra is treating the BE 6 as a product that can continue changing after purchase. The company’s software defined vehicle approach means new capabilities can be introduced through OTA updates instead of requiring customers to replace the vehicle.

That could become one of the biggest selling points for the SPORTEQ range. Electric SUVs are increasingly competing on software and connected experiences as much as range and acceleration. Mahindra is clearly betting that AI, personalisation and entertainment can make its electric SUVs feel newer for longer.

For buyers, the BE 6 SPORTEQ therefore represents more than another variant expansion. It is Mahindra’s attempt to turn the electric SUV into an evolving technology platform, while giving enthusiasts a sportier Freedom Edition and premium buyers a distinctive Launch Edition.
