Nikon launched the Z5 II on April 2, 2025, upgrading its entry-level full-frame mirrorless camera. It’s faster, smarter, and better for photos and videos than the 2020 Z5. P
rice starts at £1,599 / AU$2,699 (body only); US pricing is still to be determined.
What’s Inside the Nikon Z5 II?
The Nikon Z5 II uses a 24.5-megapixel full-frame sensor, the same as in the Nikon Zf. It has a new Expeed 7 processor that boosts speed, letting it shoot at 14 frames per second or 30 fps in high-speed mode.
Image stabilization is rated at 7.5EV, keeping shots steady even with shaky hands.
Smarter Autofocus for Everyone
This camera features Nikon’s top phase-detection autofocus with 3D tracking, just like the Z8 and Z9. It focuses on small subjects that are only 3% of the frame and works in very low light down to -10EV.
It can detect nine subjects, including people, dogs, cats, birds, cars, and airplanes.
Video Power for Young Creators
The Z5 II records 4K video at 30 fps with N-RAW and N-Log options, or 60 fps with a crop. It’s the first Nikon to save N-RAW directly to a memory card, no extra gear needed.
It also has two SD UHS-II card slots for plenty of storage space.
Better Design, Brighter Screen
Its weather-sealed body resists rain and dust, perfect for outdoor use. The 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen has 2.1 million dots and flips out for selfies or vlogging.
The electronic viewfinder is three times brighter than the Z5’s, reaching 3,000 nits for clear viewing in sunlight.
Is the Nikon Z5 II Too Expensive?
The original Z5 now costs under $1,000 / £1,000, while the Z5 II starts at £1,599 / AU$2,699.
Kits include £1,859 / AU$3,300 with a 24-50mm lens, £2,129 / AU$3,370 with a 24-70mm, or £2,299 / AU$4,062 with a 24-200mm. It offers pro features, and Nikon’s discount history suggests the price may drop soon.
