Amazon Alexa Tablets are a new range of Android devices featuring Alexa+ AI, premium aluminium designs and Google Play Store support. The lineup includes three models, with prices starting at $229.99.
Amazon has unveiled a new family of tablets designed to bring together entertainment, productivity and artificial intelligence in a single device. The new Amazon Alexa Tablets arrive in three sizes, with the flagship Alexa Tablet 12 Pro leading the range alongside the more affordable Alexa Tablet 11 and Alexa Tablet 8.
The company is putting Alexa+ at the centre of the experience, giving users access to personalised assistance, smart home controls and contextual help without constantly switching between apps. The tablets also run Android and support the full Google Play Store, opening the door to popular services such as YouTube, Netflix, Gmail and Google Docs.
Hardware is another major part of the launch. All three models feature aluminium construction, high resolution displays and multi core processors. Amazon has also brought its Kindle reading experience to the wider tablet range, promising a quieter, more comfortable environment for reading without the usual interruptions.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro brings premium hardware and productivity features
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro is the most advanced model in the new lineup. It features a 12 inch display with a resolution density of 280 pixels per inch, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The combination is designed to provide extra vertical space for documents, web browsing and reading, while the faster refresh rate should make scrolling and supported animations feel smoother.
Amazon is offering two display versions, including a standard panel and a Nanomatte option designed to reduce reflections. The Nanomatte screen uses a precision etched surface developed with Corning to minimise glare while retaining image detail and colour accuracy. This could make the tablet particularly appealing to people who read, work or watch content in brightly lit environments.
Under the hood, the tablet uses a 4nm, eight core processor with up to 16GB of RAM. Amazon claims it delivers nearly three times the processing speed and nine times the graphics performance of any tablet the company has previously shipped. These figures are Amazon’s own comparisons, so independent testing will be needed to establish how the device performs against competing tablets.
The company also promises up to 16 hours of video playback, along with quad Dolby Atmos speakers and Wi Fi 6E connectivity. At just 6.5mm thick, the tablet has a slim aluminium unibody design intended to balance portability with a larger screen.
For users who want to do more than stream films or browse the web, Amazon is introducing a dedicated Pro Pen and Pro Keyboard. The pen supports USI 2.0, 4,096 pressure levels, tilt detection, magnetic attachment and wireless charging. It is designed for handwritten notes, sketches, document markups and annotations.
The keyboard attaches magnetically without requiring Bluetooth pairing. Combined with support for multiple windows and separate work and personal profiles, it is intended to make the tablet more useful for office tasks and everyday productivity.
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 12 Pro starts at $499.99 for the standard display model. The Nanomatte version starts at $549.99. The listed entry configuration includes 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Kindle reading and Alexa+ intelligence take centre stage
One of the more interesting additions is a dedicated reading experience built into the Kindle app. When users open a book, the tablet can switch to a distraction reduced mode that silences notifications, reduces blue light and prioritises reading. Amazon says battery life can reach up to 20 hours in this mode.
Readers can choose between three display themes, ranging from warmer colours to a softer paper like appearance and grayscale. On the 12 Pro, the Nanomatte display is designed to improve readability further by reducing reflections. Users can also highlight passages, underline text and write notes directly on the page with the Pro Pen.
Book annotations can synchronise across supported Kindle apps and Kindle Scribe, helping readers continue their work across compatible devices.
Alexa+ is another defining feature across the range. Users can activate the assistant by saying its wake word or tapping the Ask Alexa button. It can answer questions, suggest actions, control compatible smart home devices and offer personalised recommendations without requiring users to leave their current activity.
The new On Screen Intelligence feature adds contextual assistance. For example, someone browsing hiking routes could ask Alexa to compare options based on their preferences. Users viewing a schedule could ask the assistant to add dates to their calendar and identify potential conflicts.
Live sessions offer a more conversational approach, allowing users to continue speaking with Alexa without repeating the wake word after every question. If screen sharing is enabled, the assistant can follow what is displayed and respond to changing context.
Amazon says these capabilities are designed with privacy controls in mind. On Screen Intelligence features are disabled by default and require users to opt in. Visual indicators show when Alexa is active, and users can turn off individual features through the settings.
The tablets also introduce a personalised home screen with a For You feed and Dynamic Tab. These sections bring together recently watched videos, books, music, games and recommendations, making it easier to return to unfinished activities.
Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 and Tablet 8 target different users
The Amazon Alexa Tablet 11 is positioned as an entertainment focused device. It features an 11 inch display with a 2.5K resolution, 276 pixels per inch and a 90Hz refresh rate. Its 16:10 aspect ratio is suited to video streaming, while the aluminium body gives it a more premium finish than a basic entry level tablet.
An eight core processor, 8GB of RAM, dual Dolby Atmos speakers and up to 15 hours of video playback complete the main specifications. The device includes Alexa+ and the same personalised home screen features found on the flagship model.
The tablet comes in Graphite, Amethyst and Matcha, with a starting price of $329.99. Its base configuration offers 64GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.
At the more affordable end, the Amazon Alexa Tablet 8 is designed for portability. It features an 8.7 inch display and weighs just 329g, making it easier to carry around or hold in one hand while reading. The device measures 7.95mm thick and includes an eight core processor, Wi Fi 6 connectivity and up to 14 hours of video playback.
It also includes Alexa+ and Amazon’s wider entertainment features. Colour options include Graphite, Rosette and Teal. Pricing starts at $229.99, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage in the base configuration.
The choice between the three models largely comes down to how the tablet will be used. The 12 Pro offers the largest screen, more memory options and dedicated productivity accessories. The 11 provides a middle ground for entertainment and everyday tasks, while the 8 prioritises portability and a lower starting price.
Amazon Kids Tablets and availability details
Amazon has also announced new Kids Tablets in 8.7 inch and 11 inch sizes. These bundles include a tablet, a protective case and one year of Amazon Kids+. The cases vary by age group, with softer bumper designs for younger children and slimmer cases with built in kickstands for older users.
Amazon Kids+ is also gaining Storybuilder, a creative tool that lets children use their voices to develop original illustrated stories. A redesigned Parent Dashboard will provide weekly insights into the content children explore and the subjects they learn about.
The new Amazon Alexa Tablets start at $229.99, with the Alexa Tablet 11 priced from $329.99 and the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro from $499.99. The Nanomatte version of the Pro starts at $549.99.
Accessories include the Pro Keyboard at $149.99 and the Pro Pen at $89.99, with protective folios also available.
According to Amazon’s announcement, the new tablets will be available to purchase in the United States, Mexico and Canada from October 11, 2026, with shipping scheduled to begin on October 14. The UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain are scheduled to receive the range from October 19. Amazon Kids Tablets are also scheduled to ship in Japan from October 14.
The new lineup represents a broader attempt by Amazon to combine its entertainment ecosystem with a more capable Android tablet experience. Google Play Store access addresses one of the biggest limitations associated with earlier Amazon tablets, while Alexa+ introduces AI features designed to work across everyday activities.
The hardware specifications and software features look promising on paper, particularly on the 12 Pro. However, real world performance, battery endurance and the usefulness of Alexa+’s contextual features will ultimately determine whether these devices can compete with established Android tablets and Apple’s iPad range.
