Marvel Studios is set to introduce a fresh take on the iconic James Bond archetype with a female character in its upcoming animated series, Eyes of Wakanda, premiering on Disney+ on August 6, 2025.

This new character, described as a “Jane Bond,” will bring a Wakandan twist to the spy-espionage genre, promising an exciting addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Unlike previous Bond-like characters in the MCU, such as Natasha Romanoff and Yelena Belova, this Jane Bond will be a member of the Hatut Zeraze, Wakanda’s elite secret operatives, and will operate with unique Vibranium-enhanced technology.

The announcement came from Todd Harris, the showrunner, creator, and director of Eyes of Wakanda, during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Harris revealed that the series, set during the Western Bronze Age, will weave a thrilling spy narrative that spans across time. He teased the introduction of not just one but two Bond-like figures, a male “Wakanda-grade James Bond” and the female Jane Bond.

Both characters will be central to a high-stakes espionage storyline, leveraging the rich cultural and technological backdrop of Wakanda. Harris emphasized the secrecy surrounding the project, mirroring Wakanda’s guarded nature, which keeps specific character details under wraps for now.

Eyes of Wakanda will consist of four episodes, all releasing on Disney+ in August 2025, with a special screening of the first episode scheduled for June 9, 2025. As the first Disney+ series in the MCU’s Phase 6, it marks a significant milestone for Marvel’s streaming slate.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps remains the only MCU film slated for 2025, making Eyes of Wakanda a key highlight for fans craving new content. The series will center on the Hatut Zeraze, Wakanda’s covert operatives tasked with protecting the nation’s interests. A major plotline involves the recovery of stolen Vibranium, a precious resource that, as Harris noted, once transformed the world when it reached Steve Rogers, creating Captain America’s iconic shield.

What sets this Jane Bond apart from other MCU characters like Natasha Romanoff or Yelena Belova is her affiliation with the Hatut Zeraze and access to Vibranium-based technology. In the comics, Hatut Zeraze operatives wear Vibranium-mesh suits that shield them from bullets and blades, offering unparalleled protection.

Their gear includes cloaking technology for invisibility and energy-dampening boots that allow operatives to fall from great heights unharmed, run on walls, or even cross water. These tools give the Jane Bond character a distinct edge, blending high-tech espionage with Wakanda’s unique resources, unlike the Black Widow program’s training-based approach.

Harris hinted that the series will explore how Vibranium’s influence reverberates through history, with the Hatut Zeraze working covertly to prevent the stolen element from causing global chaos. This narrative promises to deliver a fresh perspective on Wakanda, showcasing its historical depth and technological prowess.

Unlike Natasha and Yelena, who operated as Widows with a focus on espionage and combat training, Jane Bond’s missions will likely involve Vibranium-driven operations, offering a new flavor of spy thriller within the MCU.

Fans are already buzzing with anticipation for Eyes of Wakanda, eager to see how this Jane Bond character will redefine the spy genre. The series’ animated format allows for creative freedom in depicting the Western Bronze Age and Wakanda’s futuristic technology, making it a visually and narratively compelling addition to the MCU. With its blend of historical intrigue, high-tech espionage, and Wakandan culture, Eyes of Wakanda is poised to captivate audiences when it debuts next summer.
