Crystal Lake is almost ready to bring the world of Friday the 13th back to the screen, with the new Peacock horror series arriving just in time for Halloween season.

The highly anticipated prequel puts Pamela Voorhees at the center of the story, giving viewers a closer look at the woman behind one of horror’s most recognisable villains. Linda Cardellini takes on the role of Pamela, exploring a period of her life that fans have only seen glimpses of in the original Friday the 13th franchise.

The series takes place before the events of the original 1980 movie. The story begins a year after the drowning of a young Jason Voorhees. Pamela is devastated by the loss of her son and becomes increasingly consumed by grief, while holding onto the belief that Jason may somehow still be alive.

That setup gives Crystal Lake a very different starting point from the traditional Jason focused stories. Instead of beginning with the masked killer stalking teenagers around Camp Crystal Lake, the series is expected to spend more time exploring Pamela, her relationship with Jason and the events that eventually shaped the horror mythology.

When does Crystal Lake premiere on Peacock?

In the US, Crystal Lake is scheduled to premiere on Thursday, October 15, 2026, on Peacock.

The series is expected to become available at 12am Pacific Time, which means viewers on the East Coast should be able to watch from 3am Eastern Time.

For viewers elsewhere, the release date and time will depend on the streaming service available in each territory.

In Canada, Crystal Lake is scheduled to arrive on Crave on October 15. Viewers in New Zealand can watch it on Neon, also from October 15, while Australian audiences will get the series through Stan on October 16.

The UK release follows a few days later. Crystal Lake is scheduled to arrive through Sky and NOW on Monday, October 19 at 8am BST.

That means international viewers will not all get access at exactly the same time, although the series itself is being released as a complete eight episode season.

What is Crystal Lake about?

At the heart of Crystal Lake is Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini.

Pamela is already a familiar name to longtime Friday the 13th fans. In the original movie, she is revealed to be responsible for the murders at Camp Crystal Lake, motivated by the death of her son Jason years earlier.

The new series goes back before those events to explore what happened to Pamela and Jason before she became the killer audiences remember.

The story begins after Jason’s drowning, with Pamela struggling to accept that her son is gone. Her grief gradually becomes intertwined with a desperate hope that Jason might still be alive.

That premise gives the series room to explore the emotional and psychological side of the franchise. Rather than simply repeating the familiar formula of teenagers arriving at Camp Crystal Lake and being hunted one by one, Crystal Lake has the opportunity to build a longer story around Pamela’s life and the origins of the Voorhees family tragedy.

Linda Cardellini’s casting is also one of the biggest reasons the series has attracted attention. Best known for roles across television and film, Cardellini brings a very different screen presence to Pamela than fans may expect.

The result could give the character considerably more depth than she has traditionally received in the franchise.

When are the Crystal Lake episodes released?

There will be eight episodes in the first season of Crystal Lake, and the full season is expected to arrive at the same time on its respective streaming services.

That means viewers who prefer to binge their horror can watch the complete story from the premiere rather than waiting for a new episode each week.

Several episode titles have already been revealed.

  • Episode 1 is titled The Great Pretender.
  • Episode 2 is titled Are You Experienced?
  • Episode 3 has not yet received a publicly confirmed title.
  • Episode 4 is also currently listed as TBA.
  • Episode 5 is titled The Acid Queen.
  • Episode 6 is titled Helter Skelter.
  • Episode 7 is titled Blue Skies.
  • Episode 8 has not yet been given a confirmed title.

With all eight episodes arriving together, Crystal Lake is positioned as one of the bigger horror streaming releases of October. The timing is particularly fitting, with the series landing only a couple of weeks before Halloween.

For Friday the 13th fans, however, the appeal goes beyond the Halloween season. The show represents a chance to revisit one of horror’s most famous locations and examine the origins of the family at the center of the franchise.

The big question will be whether Crystal Lake can balance the expectations of longtime fans with a story that works for viewers who may not know every detail of Friday the 13th history.

For now, the release date is clear. US viewers can expect Crystal Lake on Peacock on October 15, 2026, with the full eight episode season arriving at launch.
