Amazon appears to be gearing up for a refresh of its popular Kindle lineup, with new models expected to drop on October 16, 2024.

According to recent reports from Good e-Reader and T3, we could see the release of a revamped entry-level Kindle and an updated Kindle Paperwhite.

If the rumors are true, these upgrades will introduce brighter displays, improved performance, and more eco-friendly designs.

Bright Display and Sustainable Design

One of the key features of the new Amazon Kindle 2024 edition is expected to be its display, which will reportedly offer 25% higher brightness than its predecessor, the 11th-generation model.

This will make reading easier in various lighting conditions, especially in bright sunlight. The brighter screen may be based on E Ink Carta 1300 technology, which was recently seen in the 2024 Kobo Clara BW—an eReader that gained praise for its quick page turns and sharp text rendering.

What also stands out is the Kindle’s move toward sustainability. Reports indicate that the new Kindle will be made from 75% recycled plastic and 90% recycled magnesium, signaling Amazon’s shift to a more environmentally friendly approach.

Faster Page Turns and Better Storage

Performance enhancements are also on the cards. The 2024 Kindle models are rumored to offer faster page turns, a feature that would make navigation feel smoother and more responsive.

This improvement is likely driven by E Ink Carta 1300 technology, which also powers other high-end eReaders on the market.

Faster page turns not only improve usability but also enhance the overall reading experience, making it feel more like flipping through the pages of a physical book.

Additionally, the new Kindle is expected to come with 16GB of onboard storage, double that of the previous entry-level model.

This means users will be able to store even more books, audiobooks, and PDFs on their devices, a great advantage for those who like to carry large libraries on the go.

The device is also rumored to offer an eight-week battery life, ensuring long-lasting use without frequent recharges.

Possible Kindle Paperwhite Update

In addition to the refreshed entry-level Kindle, Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2021) may also be getting an update.

While not much is confirmed, there is speculation that this model could feature similar improvements like faster performance and possibly color-ink technology.

This would put it on par with its competitor, the Kobo Clara Colour, which offers a color e-ink display for a more vivid reading experience.

FCC Filings and Retail Hints

The buzz around the launch has been fueled by a few notable signs. A pair of FCC filings—marked as 2A4DH-5698 and 2A4DH-5688—are believed to be related to the new Kindle models.

The listings, which include photos and diagrams, are currently under embargo but are expected to reveal more details once the products are officially announced.

In another leak, a Spanish retailer accidentally listed a “2024 edition” of the entry-level Kindle on its website in late September. The listing hinted at the device’s eco-friendly design and brighter display, adding more weight to the rumors.

Additionally, the fact that several Amazon Kindle models have been out of stock for a while suggests that Amazon may be clearing out inventory in preparation for the new models.

What We Hope to See

While a major hardware upgrade is anticipated, there are some features Kindle fans are hoping for that may not make it into this release.

Waterproofing with an IPX8 rating, like that of the current Kindle Paperwhite, would be a welcome addition to the entry-level model. However, this feature has yet to be confirmed.

Though color e-ink would be an exciting update, it remains a less likely addition for this year’s release.

If it does appear, it may be limited to higher-end models like the Kindle Paperwhite, which would still be a significant upgrade for Amazon’s eReaders.

For now, these details remain rumors until Amazon officially confirms them, but with retail stores gearing up for the launch, Kindle enthusiasts won’t have to wait long to see what’s in store.
