  • Netflix has confirmed it paid $587 million in cash to acquire Ben Affleck’s AI company, InterPositive.
  • InterPositive develops AI tools designed to improve filmmaking while preserving human creativity.
  • Netflix says around 300 productions now use AI, primarily during post production.
  • The company believes AI can reduce production costs and speed up workflows without sacrificing quality.

Netflix has officially disclosed how much it spent to acquire Ben Affleck’s AI company, InterPositive, ending months of speculation around one of the entertainment industry’s biggest technology deals. According to the company’s latest securities filing, Netflix paid approximately $587 million in cash for the acquisition, a figure that had remained undisclosed since the deal was first announced earlier this year.

The transaction reflects Netflix’s broader strategy of expanding artificial intelligence across its production pipeline while positioning itself at the forefront of next generation filmmaking tools. Although industry observers had expected the acquisition to be significant, the nearly $600 million price tag highlights just how valuable Netflix believes AI will become in the future of content creation.

SEC Filing Confirms the Deal Value

The financial details emerged through Netflix’s latest quarterly filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. The company stated that it completed a business acquisition in March 2026 for a total purchase price of approximately $587 million, paid entirely in cash.

While the filing did not explicitly mention InterPositive by name, the timeline matches Netflix’s announcement made on March 5, confirming that the acquisition referred to Affleck’s AI company. The purchase price had also appeared in Netflix’s first quarter filing submitted earlier this year, though it received little public attention until now.

The confirmation finally answers one of the biggest questions surrounding the acquisition. Since Netflix revealed the deal, industry insiders had been eager to know how much the streaming giant valued the company and its technology.

What InterPositive Brings to Netflix

Ben Affleck founded InterPositive in 2022 with a vision that differed from many AI startups entering Hollywood. Rather than replacing filmmakers or automating creative decision making, the company focused on developing tools that support production while preserving artistic control.

Its technology was built using a proprietary dataset captured inside a controlled soundstage environment. That foundation allowed the company to train AI models capable of understanding visual continuity, editorial consistency, and cinematic rules that are often difficult for conventional AI systems to handle.

The technology is designed to solve practical filmmaking challenges, including missing shots, inconsistent lighting, background replacement, and visual continuity during post production. These are areas that typically require significant time, effort, and budget to correct using traditional visual effects workflows.

When announcing the acquisition earlier this year, Affleck emphasized that protecting human creativity remained the company’s primary objective. He described technology as something that should evolve alongside filmmakers rather than replace them, pointing to previous industry shifts such as digital filmmaking, motion capture, and virtual production as examples of innovation supporting creative work.

Following the acquisition, Affleck also agreed to serve as a senior advisor at Netflix, giving the company direct access to his experience as both a filmmaker and the founder of the AI startup.

Netflix Expands AI Across Hundreds of Productions

Netflix’s investment in InterPositive comes as the company rapidly expands its use of artificial intelligence across its global production operations.

During the company’s recent earnings call, Netflix co CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that approximately 300 productions are already using AI during different stages of development, with the majority of applications currently focused on post production.

According to Sarandos, generative AI is becoming an important part of the entire creative workflow, beginning with concept development and previsualization before extending into editing, visual effects, and final delivery. He said these technologies allow production teams to produce higher quality results more quickly and efficiently than conventional methods.

One example highlighted during the earnings presentation was the Tom Hanks backed documentary series The American Experiment. Sarandos explained that the production included 17 minutes of AI enhanced footage, allowing the creative team to expand the scope of the documentary in ways that would have been difficult under traditional production methods.

He also noted that those AI assisted sequences were completed in roughly half the time and at about half the cost compared with previous approaches, demonstrating the financial advantages that Netflix believes AI can deliver without compromising production quality.

A Major Bet on the Future of Entertainment

The $587 million acquisition underscores Netflix’s confidence that artificial intelligence will become an increasingly important part of modern filmmaking. Rather than treating AI as a standalone experiment, the company appears to be integrating it into everyday production workflows across a growing number of projects.

InterPositive’s emphasis on supporting creative professionals instead of replacing them also aligns with broader industry discussions around responsible AI adoption. As Hollywood continues to debate the role of artificial intelligence, Netflix is positioning itself as a company that wants to use the technology to improve efficiency while maintaining human creative leadership.

With hundreds of productions already using AI assisted workflows and one of Hollywood’s most recognizable filmmakers now advising its technology efforts, Netflix is making it clear that artificial intelligence will remain a central part of its long term production strategy.
