Electronic Arts (EA) recently announced that it will be bumping up the cost of its EA Play subscription service starting from May 10th. This decision affects both the Standard and Pro tiers of the service.
The Standard tier, which currently stands at $4.99 / £3.99 per month, will see a slight increase to $5.99 / £5.99. Meanwhile, the yearly package for this tier will rise from $29.99 / £19.99 to $39.99 / £35.99.
For those opting for the Pro tier, which offers additional in-game rewards, perks, and the ability to access brand-new EA games upon launch, the price will also see a hike.
Currently priced at $14.99 / £14.99 per month, it will jump to $16.99 / £16.99. The annual subscription for the Pro tier will rise from $119.99 / £109.99 to $99.99 / £89.99.
While subscribers have already received emails detailing these changes, new members are already experiencing the updated pricing.
The adjustments are reflected in the EA App, though the pricing for versions on platforms like Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox still shows the older rates.
EA justified the price increase by citing changes in currency value and the need to align fees with market standards.
EA Play, which first debuted in 2014 for Xbox One, later expanded to PS4 and PC in 2019 and 2020, respectively.
It’s worth noting that EA isn’t the only gaming giant to raise its subscription prices. Last year, Microsoft also upped the cost of its Xbox Game Pass, with the regular version increasing from $9.99 / £7.99 to $10.99 / £8.99, and the Ultimate version going up from $14.99 / £10.99 to $16.99 / £12.99.
This price adjustment was followed by a hike in the price of the Xbox Series X console itself in certain regions.
Gamers subscribing to EA Play should be prepared for a slight increase in their monthly or yearly subscription costs starting from May.
These changes are aimed at reflecting shifts in currency values and keeping fees in line with industry standards.
