Truecaller’s Assistant, available to paid users, can now replicate your voice to greet and respond to callers. This is in addition to existing options where the digital assistant can answer calls, screen unknown numbers, take messages, respond on your behalf, or even record the call.
To get started, Truecaller users need to record a short script in their own voice. Once they give their consent, the Assistant can create a digital copy of their voice to use when answering calls.
Typically, users can customize the introductory greeting that callers hear. However, Truecaller has placed restrictions on the greeting template if you choose to use your personal voice instead of a pre-set system-generated one.
This is to ensure that callers know they are hearing a “digital” version of your voice. Despite this, users can still customize follow-up responses according to their preferences.
Microsoft’s Personal Voice feature, part of their Azure AI Speech, also includes technology to add watermarks to the speech outputs it creates. This allows a detector tool to identify synthetic audio, ensuring transparency and authenticity in communications.
