Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind the popular online shooter Helldivers 2, has announced plans to overhaul the game’s fire system following player concerns over its overpowering nature.

In a recent update shared on the official Helldivers 2 Discord channel, community manager Thomas ‘Twinbeard’ Petersson addressed a player’s worries about the game’s fire mechanics, particularly focusing on the Hulk flamethrowers and fire tornadoes.

Players expressed frustration over these elements, which could swiftly eliminate characters during missions.

Petersson acknowledged the issue, describing it as “ridiculous”, and assured players that Arrowhead is actively working on adjustments to the fire system as a whole.

“We’re currently reviewing the entire fire system,” Petersson stated. “This includes aspects like damage per second (DPS), damage over time (DOT), how the fire interacts with the game’s hosting mechanics, and ensuring players don’t perish within seconds of touching it. We’re taking a comprehensive approach to this, addressing different aspects gradually.”

While Petersson did not specify a timeline for these changes, he emphasized that it is a top priority for the development team.

Arrowhead’s CEO, Johan Pilestedt, also provided insight into future updates for Helldivers 2. Responding to queries about the possibility of a transmog feature, which would allow players to change the appearance of their equipment while retaining its original effects, Pilestedt dismissed the idea.

“We won’t be introducing a transmog feature,” Pilestedt explained. “The unique appearance of equipment corresponds to its unique effects. Swapping appearances would be like having an apple that tastes like bacon, or vice versa.”

Arrowhead Game Studios is actively addressing player concerns regarding the overpowered fire damage in Helldivers 2, with plans to implement comprehensive changes to the game’s fire system.

While the timeline for these adjustments remains undisclosed, the development team assures players that it is a priority.

Additionally, the studio has ruled out the possibility of introducing a transmog feature, emphasizing the importance of equipment aesthetics aligning with their respective functionalities.
