  • Slow Horses Season 6 has finished filming before Season 5’s September 2025 premiere.
  • A fall 2026 release is expected, continuing the yearly schedule.
  • The season will adapt Mick Herron’s Joe Country and Slough House.
  • Season 7 and a spin-off, Down Cemetery Road, are already confirmed.

Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed spy thriller Slow Horses is showing no signs of slowing down. Season 6 has officially wrapped filming, an impressive milestone considering Season 5 won’t premiere until September 24, 2025.

The series, adapted from Mick Herron’s bestselling Slough House novels, has become known for its gripping storylines and tight release schedule, rarely leaving fans waiting more than a year between seasons.

With Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) and his team of disgraced MI5 agents returning for more high-stakes espionage, viewers can expect plenty of action in the years ahead, with Seasons 5, 6, and 7 already confirmed.

When Will Slow Horses Season 6 Premiere?

Apple renewed the show for a sixth season shortly after the Season 4 finale, and according to Deadline, production has already wrapped.

Given that Season 4 debuted in September 2024 and Season 5 is scheduled for September 2025, all signs point to Slow Horses Season 6 arriving in fall 2026.

Jay Hunt, Apple TV+’s creative director for Europe, shared his excitement, saying:

“Audiences around the world have fallen in love with the Slow Horses, and I’m delighted that Gary Oldman will be leading this star-studded cast on another acerbic and action-packed adventure.”

Is There a Season 6 Trailer Yet?

Not yet. With Season 5 still awaiting its own trailer, fans shouldn’t expect a look at Season 6 anytime soon.

However, Apple has a habit of teasing upcoming seasons at the end of finales, so viewers might get their first glimpse during the Season 5 finale airing October 22, 2025.

Who’s Returning for Slow Horses Season 6?

While the plot of Season 5 remains under wraps, the core cast is expected to return for Season 6 alongside a notable new addition. Predicted cast members include:

  • Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb
  • Jack Lowden as River Cartwright
  • Kristin Scott Thomas as Diana Taverner
  • Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish
  • Christopher Chung as Roddy Ho
  • Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Shirley Dander
  • Rosalind Eleazar as Louisa Guy
  • Ruth Bradley as Emma Flyte
  • James Callis as Claude Whelan
  • Tom Brooke as J.K. Coe
  • Hugo Weaving as Frank Harkness
  • Joanna Scanlan as Moira Tregorian
  • Jonathan Pryce as David Cartwright

Newcomer Lenny Rush (Doctor Who) has been confirmed to join the cast after being spotted filming with Oldman earlier this year.

What Will Season 6 Be About?

For the first time, Slow Horses will adapt two of Herron’s novels in a single season: Joe Country and Slough House.

Apple’s official synopsis reads:

“Season six sees the Slow Horses on the run as Diana Taverner embroils them all in a fatally high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge.”

In Joe Country, the Slough House team is forced to confront old enemies and darker personal demons when a mission turns deadly, while Slough House sees the group erased from MI5’s records entirely as they navigate political upheaval, a rising populist movement, and a string of suspicious deaths.

As with previous installments, Season 6 will consist of six episodes.

Will There Be More Seasons?

Yes. Apple TV+ has already renewed Slow Horses for a seventh season, which is set to begin filming in late September or early October 2025. Season 7 will adapt Herron’s Bad Actors, with future storylines potentially pulling from the upcoming novel Clown Town.

Additionally, Apple is expanding the Slough House universe with a spin-off series titled Down Cemetery Road, starring Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson. The series, based on Herron’s debut novel, is already in production.

With multiple seasons and a spin-off in the works, Slow Horses is solidifying its place as one of Apple TV+’s flagship dramas. Fans can expect more biting humor, tense spy games, and of course, plenty of Jackson Lamb’s trademark cynicism in the seasons to come.
