  • Spotify has introduced a Basic plan for $10.99/month, offering music and podcasts but no audiobooks.
  • The new plan follows a recent price hike for the Premium plan from $10.99 to $11.99/month.
  • Spotify may launch a Supremium plan with high-fidelity audio, costing at least $5 more.

Spotify, a leading music streaming service, has introduced a new subscription option called the “Basic” plan for users in the United States.

Announced on Friday, this plan is priced at $10.99 per month and includes all the features of the Premium plan, minus the monthly audiobook listening time.

The rollout of the Basic plan comes on the heels of Spotify’s recent price hike for its Premium plan. Just a few weeks ago, Spotify increased the Premium plan’s cost from $10.99 to $11.99 per month.

According to a Bloomberg report, this price increase was necessary to cover the costs associated with offering audiobooks.

The new Basic plan is a strategic move by Spotify to cater to users who are primarily interested in music and podcasts and do not take advantage of the 15 hours of monthly audiobook listening provided in the Premium plan.

By opting for the Basic plan, these users can maintain the previous $10.99 price point while forgoing the audiobook benefit.

This new plan may also indicate that Spotify is considering introducing additional subscription tiers.

Rumors suggest that the company is developing a “Supremium” plan, which would feature high-fidelity audio. Bloomberg reports that this premium tier could be priced at least $5 higher than the current Premium plan.

In April, Spotify announced a significant growth in its financial performance, with a 20% increase in revenue, a 14% rise in premium subscribers, and a record quarterly profit.

These positive results highlight Spotify’s strong market position and its ability to adapt to changing consumer preferences.

The company is scheduled to release its Q2 2024 earnings report on July 24, which will provide further insights into its financial health and subscriber trends.

The introduction of the Basic plan reflects Spotify’s commitment to offering flexible and affordable options for its diverse user base.

By addressing the needs of users who do not utilize audiobook features, Spotify can retain and attract subscribers who might otherwise seek alternatives.

As Spotify continues to innovate and expand its offerings, the launch of new subscription tiers like Basic and the potential Supremium plan could enhance the user experience and solidify the company’s leadership in the streaming industry.

Whether you’re a music enthusiast or a podcast lover, Spotify’s evolving subscription plans are designed to cater to your unique listening preferences.
