Lenovo has built a reputation for showing up to trade shows with hardware that makes you do a double take. Some of it ships. Some of it quietly fades away. And then there are the ideas that sit right on the edge of genius and absurdity. The Lenovo Legion Go Fold Concept feels like it lives in that space.

Unveiled ahead of MWC in Barcelona, this device is exactly what its name suggests and somehow more complicated than that. It is a folding tablet. It is a handheld gaming system. It is also, with the right accessories attached, a compact laptop. Lenovo is not just bending screens anymore. It is bending product categories.

At the heart of the concept is an 11.6 inch POLED display that folds down into a smaller 7.7 inch screen. Fold it shut and it looks like an oversized handheld console. Open it up and you have something closer to a small tablet. Add detachable controllers and it starts resembling a portable gaming rig. Snap in the keyboard and prop it up and you are suddenly looking at a tiny PC workstation.

It sounds excessive. It also sounds very Lenovo.

A folding screen that changes its personality

The folding 11.6 inch POLED panel is the star of the show. In its full size configuration, it offers a larger canvas for productivity or more immersive gameplay. Folded in half, it becomes a compact 7.7 inch display that is easier to grip and use as a dedicated handheld.

Lenovo calls one of its configurations Horizon Full Screen Mode. In this setup, the detachable controllers sit on either side of the display, turning the device into something that visually echoes the original Legion Go, but with a twist. The folding panel means you can choose between portability and screen real estate instead of committing to one form factor.

It is a clever idea. Handheld gaming PCs often struggle with size. Too big and they become awkward to hold. Too small and you sacrifice immersion. By allowing the screen to fold, Lenovo is effectively giving users two devices in one.

There is also a separate keyboard and a built in support system that allows the Fold Concept to sit upright like a mini laptop. One of the controllers can double as a mouse, which feels like a nod to Lenovo’s long history with hybrid PCs. It is the kind of detail that suggests this concept was designed by a team that lives and breathes convertibles.

Power that feels slightly behind the curve

Under the hood, the Legion Go Fold Concept reportedly runs on Intel Core Ultra Series 2 silicon, known as Lunar Lake, rather than the newer Panther Lake chips. For a concept device that is meant to showcase the future, that choice feels a little conservative.

Still, Lenovo has not skimped on memory. The device is said to pack 32GB of RAM, which is generous for a handheld class system. In a market where even premium laptops sometimes ship with tighter memory allocations, that is a welcome move.

Battery life, on the other hand, may not be its strongest suit. Early impressions suggest it is not especially large, which could be problematic for a device that tries to be a gaming handheld and a productivity machine at the same time. High performance components and a bright folding OLED screen are not exactly known for sipping power.

As a concept, though, raw specs are only part of the story. The real question is whether Lenovo can refine this into something practical without sacrificing its ambition.

Concept, dream or future product?

Lenovo is no stranger to bold prototypes. The company has shown off rollable displays, experimental accessories and ambitious mixed reality projects over the years. Some of those ideas have evolved into shipping products. Others remain trade show curiosities.

The Legion Go Fold Concept sits somewhere in between. It feels more tangible than a pure design exercise. It also feels risky. Folding displays are still expensive. Handheld gaming PCs occupy a niche. Combining the two into a premium hybrid could make for a device that is impressive but costly.

And yet, Lenovo has a habit of pushing unusual ideas across the finish line. If there is a company willing to gamble on a folding gaming tablet laptop hybrid, it is probably this one.

For now, pricing and availability remain a mystery. What is clear is that Lenovo is still willing to experiment in public. In a PC market that can sometimes feel predictable, that alone is refreshing.
