Smartphone photography has reached an exciting turning point. Vivo’s new X300 Pro is stepping into the ring against Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro, and after a few days of testing it in Shanghai, it’s clear that Vivo is aiming straight for the top spot in mobile imaging.

A Serious Challenger in Smartphone Photography

For those outside Asia, Vivo might not yet be a household name. But among Android fans and photographers, it has built a solid reputation for innovation and camera excellence. The Vivo X300 Pro continues that trend with new camera hardware co-developed with Sony and Samsung, and a design that makes it feel more like a professional camera than a smartphone.

Its Zeiss-certified lenses, advanced sensors, and a dedicated photography kit make it one of the most ambitious camera phones yet. It pushes the limits of what mobile photography can achieve and might even challenge mirrorless cameras in certain conditions.

Built for Power and Precision

The X300 Pro runs on a custom Dimensity 9500 processor, co-developed with MediaTek. This chip integrates Vivo’s image processing engine directly into the main system, which boosts efficiency and unlocks impressive new video options. Users can record 4K video at 120 frames per second with both optical and electronic stabilization across all rear lenses. The phone can also shoot portrait videos in 4K 60fps, a first for Vivo.

When it comes to display quality, Vivo worked with BOE to deliver one of the most advanced OLED panels yet. It supports DC dimming, 2160Hz PWM dimming, and reaches a stunning 4500 nits brightness outdoors. For those sensitive to screen flicker or eye strain, this screen offers one of the smoothest viewing experiences on any smartphone today.

The display can also dim down to just 1 nit, making it ideal for late-night use without straining your eyes. Combined with the new processor’s efficiency, the phone feels equally ready for demanding games and high-end photography sessions.

A Camera System That Redefines Detail

At the heart of the X300 Pro lies its standout feature — the new 1/1.3-inch main sensor with gimbal-grade stabilization. It is paired with a 200-megapixel 3.5x telephoto lens, using Samsung’s latest sensor technology. This setup gives the X300 Pro extraordinary clarity, light capture, and zoom performance.

For comparison, Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro received a major camera upgrade this year, but Vivo’s telephoto sensor is twice as large and offers over four times the resolution. This gives the X300 Pro a clear advantage in long-range and low-light photography.

Vivo’s collaboration with Zeiss continues to pay off. Every lens is optimized for color accuracy and minimal distortion. The selfie camera also received a serious update, becoming the first Vivo front camera to earn Zeiss certification and include autofocus for sharper portraits.

The Photography Kit That Turns It Into a Camera

What really sets the X300 Pro apart is its optional photography kit. It includes a protective case, a snap-on grip with a physical shutter button, a lens adapter ring, and a 2.35x Zeiss teleconverter lens. Once attached, the phone transforms into a compact professional camera that fits neatly in your hand.

This new kit improves on the one previously released with the Vivo X200 Ultra. The design feels sturdier, with metallic accents and a better grip system. The teleconverter now integrates directly into the camera app, allowing users to shoot in any mode — even at full 200MP resolution. This makes it easier than ever to use portrait effects or capture cinematic slow-motion footage at 4K 120fps with 10-bit Log recording.

Real-World Camera Performance

Testing the X300 Pro in the busy streets of Shanghai highlighted just how far Vivo has come. The 200MP telephoto lens produced incredible results in every scenario, from daylight street scenes to night photography. Its macro focus captured tiny details with stunning precision.

Vivo’s image processing remains one of the most natural and consistent in the industry. Even in low light, photos stayed clean and sharp without excessive noise reduction. Autofocus performance was another major leap forward — fast, accurate, and reliable even when using the teleconverter.

While the ultra-wide camera is solid, it doesn’t quite match the excellence of the one on the older X200 Ultra. The selfie camera, though much improved, still trails slightly behind Apple’s front shooter. But as a complete system, the X300 Pro delivers one of the best smartphone photography experiences of 2025 so far.

Global Availability

The global version of the Vivo X300 Pro is already confirmed, complete with Google services. However, pricing and release dates remain unannounced. Vivo has a track record of launching in select European markets, but the US and UK may still have to wait.

Still, for mobile photography enthusiasts, this device might be worth importing. If Vivo can expand its reach, the X300 Pro could finally give the iPhone a true global rival in camera performance.
