  • B8301 offers 4K 120Hz passthrough with Dolby Atmos at a low price
  • Designed to solve HDMI 2.1 port limitations for gamers
  • Three models available from 3.1.2 to basic 2.0 setups
  • Launch expected in June 2026 with competitive pricing

Philips has quietly introduced a new trio of soundbars for 2026, and one model in particular stands out as a smart solution for gamers dealing with limited HDMI ports. The headline act, the B8301, combines Dolby Atmos support with 4K 120Hz passthrough, a feature that is still rare at this price point.

For many users, especially gamers, HDMI 2.1 ports are a constant headache. Most TVs only offer two, and one is typically reserved for eARC when connecting a soundbar.

That leaves just a single high bandwidth port for consoles or gaming PCs. Philips is clearly aiming to fix that bottleneck by allowing both high quality audio and full bandwidth video to pass through a single connection.

A practical solution to a common HDMI limitation

The B8301 is designed with real world setups in mind. By supporting 4K 120Hz passthrough via HDMI eARC, it effectively frees up a valuable port on your TV. This means you can connect multiple next gen devices without constantly swapping cables or compromising on performance.

What makes this even more appealing is the price. At around €329, it significantly undercuts many competing soundbars that offer similar gaming friendly features. Devices with this level of passthrough support have typically been positioned as premium products, making Philips’ approach feel refreshingly accessible.

Three models to cover different needs and budgets

Philips is not stopping at just one option. The 2026 lineup includes three models, each targeting a slightly different audience.

The B8301 sits at the top with a 3.1.2 channel configuration. It includes dedicated left, center, and right channels, along with up firing drivers for height effects and a separate subwoofer. With a total output of 190W, it is clearly built for immersive home cinema and gaming.

Stepping down, the B5601 offers a more compact 2.1 setup. It still includes Dolby Atmos support and a wireless subwoofer, delivering a respectable 145W of power. Philips positions it as a better match for mid sized TVs, particularly in the 48 to 55 inch range.

At the entry level, the B5201 strips things back further. It is a 2.0 channel soundbar without a subwoofer, delivering 80W of power. While it drops Dolby Atmos in favor of Dolby Digital, it still includes virtual surround processing, making it a decent upgrade over built in TV speakers.

Smart audio tuning and modern connectivity

Across all three models, Philips is leaning heavily on software to enhance the listening experience. The company’s so called Intellisound Engine automatically adjusts audio settings depending on whether you are watching a movie, listening to music, or playing a game.

There are also features like voice enhancement and vocal expansion, which aim to improve dialogue clarity. These are particularly useful for late night viewing or content with heavy background effects.

Connectivity is another strong point. The B8301 includes Bluetooth 6.0 with LE Audio support, while the other models use slightly older versions but still retain compatibility with modern wireless standards. This ensures better efficiency and potentially improved audio quality when streaming from mobile devices.

A compelling upgrade for older TVs

What makes this lineup especially interesting is how well it caters to people who are not ready to upgrade their TV just yet. If you own an older set with limited HDMI 2.1 support, the B8301 in particular could extend its usefulness without sacrificing gaming performance.

Rather than forcing users to invest in a brand new display, Philips is offering a relatively affordable workaround. That alone could make it one of the most practical soundbar releases of the year.

With all three models set to launch in June 2026, pricing for the smaller variants is still under wraps. But if Philips maintains its aggressive pricing strategy, the full lineup could become a strong contender in the budget to mid range soundbar market.
