  • Dyson has launched the PencilVac Fluffy with a parallel Micro Fluffy head
  • It fixes the edge cleaning issue caused by the cone shaped rollers
  • The new model drops the laser headlamps found on the Fluffycones
  • It costs 449.99 dollars in the US, significantly less than the 599.99 dollar original

When Dyson introduced the PencilVac Fluffycones, it felt like a glimpse into the future of cordless cleaning. The entire machine was shrunk down and reimagined, with the motor, bin and battery tucked neatly into a handle barely thicker than a broomstick. It was bold, clever and undeniably different.

But for all its innovation, there was one issue that held it back.

The cone shaped rollers on the Fluffycones cleaner head gave the vacuum a pointed nose. That design helped funnel long hair toward the suction channel, but it also meant the floorhead could not sit flat against walls.

Cleaning right up to room edges became awkward. Tackling stairs, which should have been easy given the PencilVac’s lightweight build, often turned into a fiddly task.

Now, without much noise or marketing fanfare, Dyson has launched a solution. The new PencilVac Fluffy keeps the ultra compact design intact but swaps the cone based cleaner head for a more traditional parallel roller. It is a small change on paper. In practice, it makes a big difference.

A smarter floorhead for everyday homes

The new version features what Dyson calls the Micro Fluffy cleaner head. Instead of angled cones, it uses a single parallel roller wrapped in dense, soft fibers. The design is reminiscent of the Fluffy and Fluffy Optic heads bundled with models like the V15 Detect and Gen5detect, though this one appears even more streamlined to suit the PencilVac’s slim proportions.

Most importantly, the front of the head is flat.

That means you can now glide straight into skirting boards and room corners without approaching from the side. For anyone with tight spaces, furniture-heavy rooms or narrow staircases, this change alone will feel transformative. The vacuum finally behaves the way most people expect a hard floor cleaner to behave.

The soft roller remains well-suited to delicate surfaces. It sweeps up fine dust while gently polishing hard floors, reducing the risk of scratches. For homes dominated by hardwood, laminate or tile, it is a practical and forgiving setup.

There is also a bonus. Based on the specifications, the Micro Fluffy head is slightly lighter than the Fluffycones version. On a machine designed to feel almost weightless, every gram counts.

What you lose with the simpler design

No design tweak comes without compromise.

The Fluffycones head featured two laser headlamps, one at the front and one at the back. These illuminated hidden dust on hard floors, making debris visible in a way that is oddly satisfying. The new Micro Fluffy head does not appear to include these lasers.

For some users, that will not matter. For others who have grown used to the theatrical but genuinely useful glow of Dyson’s laser technology, it may feel like a step back.

Then there is the original purpose of the cones. The tapered rollers were designed to guide long hair toward the narrow ends, helping prevent tangling and wrapping. In theory, this makes the Fluffycones version especially appealing to households with long-haired residents or shedding pets.

That said, many users report minimal hair wrap issues on standard Fluffy heads in other Dyson models. Unless you regularly deal with very long strands, the parallel roller should cope just fine.

A more affordable way into Dyson’s boldest design

Perhaps the most surprising part of this launch is the price.

The PencilVac Fluffy is currently available in the United States for 449.99 dollars. The Fluffycones version sits at 599.99 dollars. That is a substantial difference for what is otherwise the same core machine.

For buyers intrigued by the PencilVac concept but hesitant about the cost or the quirky floorhead, this new model makes the decision easier. You still get the ultra compact form factor and Dyson engineering, but with a more familiar and practical cleaning head at a lower price.

At the time of writing, the PencilVac Fluffy appears to be a US only release, with no listing yet on UK or Australian sites. Whether it rolls out globally remains to be seen.
