  • Google has launched an AI-powered business calling feature in the U.S., allowing users to have AI contact local businesses for pricing and availability details.
  • The AI clearly identifies itself as an automated system during calls, addressing past concerns about misleading human-like interactions.
  • Google Search’s AI Mode now includes the Gemini 2.5 Pro model for Pro and Ultra subscribers, offering improved performance in reasoning, math, and coding.
  • A new Deep Search feature can generate detailed, fully cited reports by analyzing multiple sources, making it useful for research and major life decisions.

Google has launched its AI-powered business calling feature nationwide in the United States, introducing a new level of convenience for users who want to gather information from local businesses without making a phone call. The feature, which uses advanced agentic AI, allows Google Search to call businesses on your behalf to check prices and availability.

First introduced earlier this year through the Search Labs program, the feature is now becoming widely available. To use it, users can search for something like “pet groomers near me.”

Alongside the results, a new option will appear that says “Have AI check pricing.” After answering a few questions about your pet, the services you need, and your preferred timing, Google’s AI will reach out to the businesses and return the relevant information.

A spokesperson from Google explained that each call begins by clearly stating that it is an automated system calling from Google on behalf of a user. This ensures transparency and avoids confusion, particularly in light of past concerns about similar technologies.

In previous years, the company faced criticism over its Duplex system, which sounded highly human and led some to believe they were speaking to a real person. Google has since addressed those concerns by ensuring its AI always identifies itself as a robot.

This feature is now accessible to all U.S. Search users. However, users with Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscriptions will receive higher usage limits.

AI Mode in Google Search Gets Major Upgrade with Gemini 2.5 Pro

Google is also enhancing its AI Mode in Search by integrating the Gemini 2.5 Pro model for Pro and Ultra subscribers. This advanced model is capable of handling complex tasks, including logical reasoning, mathematics, and coding challenges. Users can select Gemini 2.5 Pro from a drop-down menu within AI Mode.

Another new addition is the Deep Search feature, which is designed to perform comprehensive research on your behalf. It runs hundreds of searches in the background, processes the data, and delivers a well-structured and fully cited report within minutes.

This tool is especially useful for deep research related to education, career planning, hobbies, or major life decisions like buying a house or analyzing financial options.

These updates are part of Google’s broader effort to strengthen its position in the AI search space and compete with platforms such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search and Perplexity AI.

Over the past few months, Google has steadily introduced new features to AI Mode, including back-and-forth voice interactions and an AI-assisted shopping experience that includes product visuals and recommendations.

With these latest enhancements, Google continues to transform the way people interact with search technology, shifting from traditional keyword queries to more intelligent, task-oriented assistance.
